January 1, 1866 – Steam Engine No. 11 was organized and placed into service at 260 Sumner Street , East Boston with an Amoskeag steam engine.
February 15, 1866 – Company received an Amoskeag Second Size, single U-Tank, steam engine, Serial # 167.
June 2, 1868 – Company named John S. Damrell Engine No. 11.
1871 – A listing of the fire company from the BFD Annual Report, 1871.
1873 – Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 11).
May 27, 1874 – Company reorganized as a Part-Permanent company.
1889 – Company received an 1874 Amoskeag Second Size steam engine, Serial # 263, ex-Engine 21 & Relief “A”.
June 11, 1890 – Company moved to the firehouse of Chemical Engine Co. 7 at Saratoga & Byron Streets. Engine 11’s old house at 260 Sumner Street was occupied by Engine 9, whose quarters at 60 Paris Street , East Boston, was undergoing reconstruction.
1898 – Engine 11’s steam fire engine, Serial # 263, was rebuilt and placed into service.
May, 1905 – Company received an 1879 Amoskeag Second Size steam engine, Serial # 534, after being rebuilt by Manchester (NH) Locomotive Works.
April 12, 1908 – The ‘First’ Great Fire in Chelsea occurred. Engine 11 was among 14 engine companies, 2 ladder companies and a fireboat sent by Boston on Mutual Aid to Chelsea. The fire consumed 492 acres of land and destroyed 2822 buildings before being extinguished. Companies sent to Chelsea were: Engines Companies 6, 5, 11, 36, 27, 39, 26, 8, 10, 33, 9, 40, 4, 15; Ladder Companies 21, 22; Fireboat Engine 44.
November 11, 1909 – Hoseman James B. Akerly, Engine Company 11, died in the Line-Of-Duty, after being thrown from the apparatus responding to a false alarm at Box 652, Prescott & Cottage Streets, East Boston.
April 22, 1911 – Engine 11’s horse-drawn hose wagon was replaced by the first motor hose wagon to be assigned to an Engine Company. The rig was a 1911 American LaFrance, Type 5, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 23, Shop # 300.
July 3, 1914 – Engine 11’s horse-drawn steam engine and motor hose wagon are replaced by a 1914 American LaFrance, Type 12, Triple Combination pumper, Serial # 561, Shop Number # 100.
April 21, 1916 – Newspaper story: Profile of Captain C. H. Leary of Engine 11.
1923 – Company received a 1919 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 2657,
Shop # 125.
May 21, 1925 – Company received a new 1925 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 5051, Shop # 170.
June 14, 1926 – Company changed from Single-unit to Double-unit operation. A 1917 Seagrave Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 16323, Shop # 311 , was placed in service.
August 25, 1930 – Company received a new 1930 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 7232, Shop # 375.
December 1, 1927 – Company moved to a temporary location at the quarters of Chemical Engine Co. 7 at 360 Saratoga Street.
February 7, 1928 – Company returned to the firehouse at Saratoga & Byron Streets.
January 15, 1946 – Company swapped hose wagons with Engine 40. Engine 11 received a 1928 American LaFrance, Type 112, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 6319, Shop # 364. Engine 40 received the 1930 ALF wagon, Serial # 7232, Shop # 375.
1948 – Company received a 1947 American LaFrance, ‘700 Series’, 750gpm pumper, Serial # L3124, Shop #120 , ex-Engine 40.
November 15, 1950 – Company moved to a temporary location at the newly-built firehouse (later became Engine 56’s house) at 1 Ashley Street , Orient Heights.
May 9, 1951 – Engine 11 returned to 761 Saratoga Street , after Engine 56 is placed in service at 1 Ashley Street.
September 21, 1954 – Company was designated Engine-Squad 11. Company received a 1954 Federal/General Truck Corp. pumper, formerly CD-7.
April 27, 1956 – Company received a 1947 Mack Type 85/Robinson ‘Squad’ pumper, Serial # 85LS-1156, Shop # 333 , after being refitted with squad bodies. The rig is formerly Engine 3’s 1947 Mack Hose Wagon.
July 1, 1961 – Engine Squad 11 moved from 761 Saratoga Street to the quarters of Engine Company 5 at 360 Saratoga Street , East Boston. The firehouse at 761 Saratoga Street was closed and later demolished.
July 14, 1969 – Engine-Squad 11 was designated Engine Co. 11.
November 13, 1970 – Company received a 1968 Ward LaFrance, Model P80, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 80237, Shop # 163 , ex-Engine 37.
October 20, 1981 COMPANY DEACTIVATED
December 27, 2013 (S.O. #51, 2013) Company temporarily reactivated due to the long-term (4 month) closure of the Callahan Tunnel for construction work. Company to be staffed on an 12-hour overtime work shift, 0800-2000 & 2000-0800. The company to be located at the quarters of Engine Co. 9 at 239 Sumner Street , East Boston, near Maverick Square. Engine 11 to respond to all boxes in the 6000-series and other incidents in East Boston only.
