May 18, 1891 – Company organized, as a Second Section of Engine 39, at a new firehouse at 344 Congress Street, South Boston. Engines 38 & 39 operated as separate units, with separate Running Cards, but assigned only one captain and one lieutenant. The company was equipped with an 1890 Clapp & Jones First Size steam engine, Serial # 549.
June, 1897 – Company replaced the horse-drawn steamer with a new 1897 Amoskeag, Double Extra First Size, Self-Propelling steam engine, Serial # 727. The horse-drawn steamer was assigned to Engine 39. See a newspaper story on the 1897 Amoskeag steamer: Newspaper Story
February 5, 1898 – Five members of Engine 38/39 died in the Line-Of-Duty at the Bent Bedding Co. fire at 116 Merrimac St., Downtown, Box 412, 3 alarms, the ‘Merrimac Street Fire’. They were:

- Lieutenant George J. Gottwald
- Hoseman Patrick H. Disken
- Hoseman John J. Mulhern
- Hoseman William J. Welch
December 25, 1914 – Hoseman Thomas W. Devney, Engine Company 38/39, died in the Line-Of-Duty.
May 17, 1916 – Captain James J. Caine, Engine Company 38/39, was profiled in a Boston Globe article. Newspaper story
October 4, 1917 – Company received a 1915 Mack motor Hose & Chemical Wagon, no Serial #, Shop # 308, ex-Engine 25, replacing the horse-drawn hose wagon.
September 1, 1925 – Company received an 1882 Amoskeag steam engine, Serial # 578, attached to a 1916 Christie Front-Drive motor engine, Shop # 113T. (This rig is currently on display at the Boston Fire Museum, 344 Congress Street, South Boston.)
May 3, 1926 – Company received new 1926 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 5512, Shop # 175.
October 18, 1929 – Company received a new 1929 American LaFrance, Type 112, Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 6667, Shop # 369.
October, 1931 – Company received a 1921 American LaFrance, Type 75, High Pressure Hose Wagon, Serial # 3233, Shop # 337, ex-Engine 4. The 1929 ALF hose wagon, Shop # 369 was reassigned to Engine 27.
September 11, 1945 – Company received a 1923 American LaFrance, Type 75, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 4347, Shop # 342. The 1921 ALF High Pressure Hose Wagon, Shop # 337, was removed from service.
February 4, 1947 – COMPANY DEACTIVATED.
