August, 1909 – Fireboat company organized at a firehouse built on a wharf at the Foot of Lewis Street , near Maverick Square, East Boston.
October 14, 1909 – Engine Company 47 placed in service with the 1909 Fireboat ‘MV John P. Dowd‘.
November 7, 1909 – The Boston Globe published a newspaper story on the ‘New Quarters for Marine Fire Fighters’, detailing the new Fireboat station in East Boston for Engine 47. Newspaper story
June, 1910 – International Marine Engineering Magazine published a story on ‘The New Boston Fire Boat Engine 47’. Magazine Story
Circa 1922 – Members of Engine Company 47 were photographed in a group. Photo
1923 – Hoseman Daniel F. O’Connell of Engine Company 47 was awarded the Distinguished Service Award.
1943-1947 – Company out of service.
March 10, 1948 – Company received a diesel fireboat, MV Joseph J. Luna , the former US Navy minesweeper USS Bulwark (AMc-68), with a berth at Battery Wharf , foot of Battery Street, North End. The berth at the Foot of Lewis Street , East Boston, was abandoned.
August 5, 1959 – A ‘Fire Launch’ with a 300gpm pump was placed in service with the fireboat of this company. The ‘Fire Launch’ was 16.5ft in length, 22inch draft when loaded, and was designed for use in shallow waters, under wharves, piers, etc.
September 12, 1969 – Company moved to a temporary location at Lincoln Wharf.
June 7, 1972 – A new diesel fireboat, MV Firefighter , was placed in service. The fireboat was rated at 6000gpm and was equipped with an articulating boom and nozzle.
July 13, 1972 – Company returned to its permanent berth at Battery Wharf.
September 15, 1976 – COMPANY REDESIGNATED – Marine Unit 2.
