October 1, 1873 – Company was organized in a new firehouse on Washington Square (Fort Hill Square), between High Street & Belcher Lane, Downtown. Company was assigned a new 1873 Jucket & Freeman ladder truck, equipped with 24 ladders of varying lengths.
February 7, 1876 – Company received an 1876 Fire Department Shops ladder truck, equipped with 21 ladders of varying lengths.
1880 – Captain George F. Griffin and Senior Ladderman E.B. Smith, Ladder Company 8, were awarded the Roll Of Merit.
November 25, 1886 – Ladderman William H. Flavell, Ladder Company 8, died in the Line-Of-Duty while operating at 232-234 Friend Street, Downtown, Box 8, 2 Alarms.
January 30, 1890 – Company received a new 1890 Abbott & Downing ladder truck, equipped with 14 ladders of varying lengths.
August 23, 1898 – Company received a new Fire Department Shops ladder truck, equipped with 12 ladders of varying lengths.
1901 – Ladderman William H. Magner, Ladder Company 8, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
1907 – Company received a Hunneman & Co. ladder truck, rebuilt by the Fire Department Shops, equipped with 14 ladders of varying lengths.
April 22, 1915 – The horse-drawn ladder truck was replaced by a new 1915 Seagrave ‘Model 856’ 85ft motor aerial ladder truck. Shop # 208.
January 11, 1920 – Company received a new 1919 American LaFrance, Type 31, 85ft motor aerial ladder truck, Serial # 2803-C238, Shop # 226.
1922 – Company received a 1921 American LaFrance, Type 17, motor tractor, Serial # 3616,
Shop # 208T , attached to a 1915 Seagrave 85ft aerial ladder trailer, Shop # 208.
1924 – Ladderman Carl V. Anderson, Ladder Company 8, was awarded the Roll Of Merit for his actions at Commercial Wharf, North End, Box 1246, on July 19, 1924. Citation
November 16, 1925 – Ladder 8’s young crew leads the Department in annual drills. Newspaper story.
January 28, 1928 – Company received a 1927 American LaFrance, Type 17, motor tractor, Serial # 6123, Shop # 250T , attached to a 1915 Seagrave 85ft aerial ladder trailer, Shop # 208.
December 26, 1929 – Ladderman William E. Emmel, Ladder Company 8, died in the Line-Of-Duty while operating at 76-78 High Street, Downtown, Box 1422, 3 Alarms.
October 22, 1930 – Company received a new 1930 American LaFrance, Type 217, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 7251-C550, Shop # 261.
August 9, 1935 – Ladderman Albert F. Mitchell, Ladder Company 8, died in the Line-Of-Duty while operating at 71 Eastern Avenue, North End, Box 1245, 4 Alarms.
1935 – Ladderman Daniel J. Denehy, Ladder Company 8 (Aide to the Deputy Chief-Division 1), was awarded the Distinguished Service Award.
November 7, 1936 – Ladderman Frank J. Marr, Ladder Company 8, was profiled in a Boston Evening Transcript newspaper story. Newspaper story.
September 11, 1941 – Company received a new 1941 American LaFrance, ‘500 Series’ 125ft tiller aerial ladder truck, painted white, Serial #8106-C672, Shop # 207.
November 15, 1942 – Ladder 8’s American LaFrance 125ft aerial ladder truck, Shop # 207 , was crushed in a collapse of brick walls at the East Boston Lyceum (Maverick Square) Fire. Company received a 1926 American LaFrance, Type 17, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 5528-C413, Shop # 243 , as a replacement.
1943 – The 125ft aerial ladder on the repaired 1941 American LaFrance rig, Shop # 207 , collapsed during a drill at quarters.
March 2, 1944 – Company received the repaired 1941 American LaFrance (now-100ft) aerial ladder truck, Shop # 207.
1946 – Company received a 1932 American LaFrance, Type 300TC, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 7474-C584, Shop # 263.
October 14, 1949 – Company received a new 1949 Mack, Type 19, tractor, Serial # 19LS-1081, Shop # 263T , attached to a 1932 American LaFrance 85ft tiller aerial trailer, Serial # 263, Shop # 263.
September 26, 1952 – Company temporarily moved to Engine 39’s quarters at 344 Congress Street , South Boston, due to closure and demolition of the Fort Hill Square firehouse.
September 11, 1953 – Company moved to new firehouse at 123 Oliver Street , Downtown.
April 26, 1956 – Company received a new 1956 Seagrave, ‘Model 900T’, 100ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # J1330, Shop # 280.
November 25, 1968 – Company received a new 1968 Diamond Reo tractor, Serial # 574871, Shop # 216T , attached to the 1956 Seagrave 100ft aerial ladder trailer, Shop # 280.
1977 – Company received a 1973 Maxim 100ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 3129, Shop # 224.
April 10, 1981 – COMPANY DEACTIVATED.
