The Boston Fire Historical Society (BFHS) is a tax exempt, non-profit organization established in 2004 to create, maintain and grow a venue for researchers, students and others to advance and enhance the knowledge of the Boston’s fire history from the early days of the city’s settlement to the present time.The BFHS has with no direct connection or affiliation with the Boston Fire Department. While some members are or were members of the Boston Fire Department, BFHS is an all-volunteer association that preserves and catalogs the many historical records of the Boston Fire Department for research and educational purposes. The BFHS collects and stores fire-related archival materials, artifacts, ephemeral and memorabilia that will add to the collective information and background of Boston’s fire history. The BFHS website is designed to be a resource for researchers, students and citizens seeking information on the department, its personnel and history. The website provides information on and links to articles, photographs, orders, maps, and other historical data. Additional material is provided on request but donations are welcome. All funds go toward furthering the mission of the Boston Fire Historical Society.The BFHS is currently engaged in researching and identifying locations for historical markers in the city of Boston to note the sacrifices of Boston firefighters.
