A website user is seeking to identify the man in the photograph or any information on the helmet. The user describes the photographs in the following manner:
They were taken in Dorchester around 1857. He wears the typical Boston-style uniform shirt in one image, and a very ornate leather helmet in the other. There is a helmet very similar to this one in the FDNY Museum on Spring Street in New York City. It is a Roxbury presentation helmet. The helmet in this photo has a banner on either side of the painted eagle that reads, JAMAICA PLAIN. There were quite a few engineers (Chief or Assistant) in Roxbury between 1850 and 1860.
