Engine 3/Ladder 3 @ 440 Harrison Ave., South End

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This firehouse was built in 1875 and Engine Company 3 and Ladder Company 3 moved in during June, 1875.

The firehouse was located at 440 Harrison Avenue, at the corner of Bristol Street (now Paul Sullivan Way), in the South End section of Boston.

The firehouse was unique in its shape at the front of the firehouse, due to the location at the corner of a street. Ladder 3’s door faced directly onto Harrison Avenue. Engine 3’s door was angled slightly away from Harrison Avenue, facing slightly towards Bristol Street.

Engine 3 and Ladder 3 stayed here until 1937. On December 8, 1937 both companies moved into the firehouse at Fire Headquarters at 60 Bristol Street, 100 yards away.

The firehouse at 440 Harrison Avenue was closed and later demolished.
