June 25, 1872 – 1872 Hunneman steam engine, Serial # 718, placed in service. (Town of West Roxbury)
January 5, 1874 – The Town of West Roxbury was annexed to the City of Boston. West Roxbury Engine 1 became part of the Boston Fire Department at the firehouse at 659 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, and retaining its company number for the time being. The company retained the 1872 Hunneman steam engine, Serial # 718.
May 20, 1874 – The Board of Fire Commissioners voted to designate West Roxbury Engine 1 as Boston Engine Company 28, the change taking place the first week of June.
January 20, 1875 – Company was reorganized as Part-permanent company.
May 13, 1916 – Newspaper story: Profile of Captain William F. Field of Engine 28.
August 22, 1916 – Company received a 1867 Amoskeag First Size steam engine, Serial # 273, attached to a 1916 Christie Two-wheel motor tractor, Shop # 111.
April 13, 1920 – Company received a new 1920 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm, Serial # 2963, Shop # 132, and a new 1920 American LaFrance, Type 40, Hose & Chemical wagon, Serial # 2808, Shop # 331, replacing the Christie front-drive steamer and horse-drawn hose wagon.
May 12, 1926 – Company received a new 1926 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 5513, Shop # 176.
1927 – Hoseman Walter P. Corbett, Engine Company 28, was posthumously awarded the Roll Of Merit for preventing a drowning on August 2, 1927, at Nantasket Beach, Hull, Mass. Hoseman Corbett died of exhaustion after the rescue. Citation
July 27, 1928 – Company received a new 1928 American LaFrance, Type 112, combination Hose & Chemical wagon, Serial # 6318, Shop # 360.
May 14, 1948 – Company received a new 1948 Ward LaFrance, Model 85T, 750gpm pumper, Serial 48-2322, Shop # 105.
August 3, 1948 – Company received a new 1948 Ward LaFrance, Model 85H, Hose & Booster wagon, equipped with 200 booster tank, Serial # 2334, Shop # 308.
March 31, 1955 – Company changed from Double-unit to Single-unit operation.
1955 – Fire Fighter Warren F. Hall, Engine Company 28, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
July, 1968 – Company received a 1962 Ward LaFrance, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 62-4785, Shop # 113, ex-Engine 26.
July 17. 1968 – Company received a 1968 Ward LaFrance, Type 1120, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 80234, Shop # 162, ex-Engine 42.
July 9, 1971 – Company received a new 1971 Hahn 1500gpm pumper, Serial # C15-15, Shop # 155.
October 14, 1973 – Fire Fighter John W. Carlson, Engine Company 28, died in the Line-Of-Duty at Box 2416.

August 17, 1982 – Company received a 1971 Hahn 1500gpm pumper, Serial # C15-18, Shop # 158, ex-Engine 49, in temporary service.
November 25, 1982 – The 1971 Hahn pumper, Shop # 155, was returned to Engine 28.
November 29, 1984 – Company received a new 1984 Emergency-One/Ford 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 3779, Shop # 105.
December 18, 1984 – Company moved to a new firehouse at 746 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain. The old firehouse at 659 Centre Street was closed permanently.
June 18, 1993 – Company received a new 1993 Emergency-One ‘Protector’ model, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 12471, Shop # 136.
2000 – Fire Captain Paul G. Carey, Engine Company 28, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation
August 15, 2008 – Company received a new 2008 Emergency One ‘Cyclone II’ model, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 134063, Shop # 171.
2013 – Fire Fighter James K. Plourde, Engine Company 28, was awarded the Walter Scott Medal for Valor for his actions on Boylston St., Back Bay, on April 15, 2013.
