This firehouse was opened on May 10, 1971 when Engine Company 26, Engine Company 7 and Ladder Company 17 moved from their former quarters at 194 Broadway, Downtown. The firehouse is located on Columbus Avenue, at the corner of Isabella Street, in the Park Square section of the city.
Engine 26 was disbanded on April 10, 1981.
The District Chief of District 4 also maintains quarters at this firehouse.
Three plaques are mounted on the exterior of the firehouse to commemorate firefighters who died in the Line Of Duty.
Engine 7 and Ladder 17 have a wide response area, covering the South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Downtown and parts of South Boston.
Engine 7 responds to approximately 3800 incidents per year, while Ladder 17 responds to approximately 4000 incidents per year.
