January 1, 1912 – The Town of Hyde Park was annexed to the City of Boston. The horse-drawn Hose Company at 30 Winthrop Street , in the Cleary Square section of Hyde Park, was designated Hose Company 48, and was quartered with Chemical Company 14 and Ladder Company 28.
February 2, 1912 – Hose Co. 48 was redesignated Engine Co. 48. The company was located at
30 Winthrop Street, Hyde Park. The company was equipped with an 1872 Hunneman Third-Size steam pumper, Serial # 722, ex-Engine 9. It had been rebuilt by the Manchester Locomotive Works in 1905.
March, 1915 – Company received an 1890 Amoskeag Fourth-Size steam pumper, Serial # 663, ex-Engine 46.
May 16, 1916 – Newspaper story: Profile of Captain Fred W. Battis of Engine 48. Story
June 23, 1920 – The horse-drawn apparatus was replaced by a 1916 Christie2-wheel tractor, Shop # 114T, attached to a 1906 Second-Size steam pumper, and a 1920 American LaFrance, Type 40, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 2805, Shop # 327. Chemical Engine Company 14 at this firehouse was disbanded.
February 1, 1921 – Company received a 1920 American LaFrance, Type 75, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 3152, Shop # 334.
December 18, 1923 – Company received a 1922 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 3918, Shop # 152, replacing the Christie tractor-drawn steam pumper, Shop # 114T.
October 28, 1931 – Company received a 1931 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 7378, Shop # 388.
March, 1945 – Company received a 1945 American LaFrance, ‘600 Series’, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 8218, Shop # 102.
January, 1946 – The 1931 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster Wagon, Shop # 388, was transferred to Engine 25, making that company a Double-unit. Engine 48 received a spare 1922 American LaFrance Wagon, Serial # 3911, Shop # 341.
November, 1947 – The 1931 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster Wagon, Shop # 388 , returned to service at Engine 48.
September 3, 1948 – Company received a new 1948 American LaFrance ‘700 Series’, 750gpm pumper, Serial # L3593, Shop # 133.
July, 1954 – Company received a 1947 Mack, Type 85, Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 85LS-1158, Shop # 303, ex-Engine 6.
August, 1955 – The 1947 Mack Hose Wagon, Shop # 303, was placed in reserve.
December 6, 1956 – Company changed from a Double-unit to a Combination Single-Double-unit operation.
Febraury, 1959 – Company received a 1953 GMC/Robinson Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 451-30-3494, Shop # 314, ex-Engine 53 and Engine 50.
July, 1962 – Company received a 1947 Mack, Type 19, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 19LS-1064,
Shop # 138 , ex-Engine 32 and Engine 21.
August 24, 1968 – Company received a 1962 Ward LaFrance 1250gpm pumper, Type 1150, Serial # 62-4783, Shop # 105, ex-Engine 13.
May 1, 1969 – Company changed to Single-unit operation.
December 14, 1972 – Company moved into a new firehouse at 60 Fairmount Avenue, Hyde Park, along with Ladder 28. The old firehouse at 30 Winthrop Street was closed. Engine 48’s 1962 Ward LaFrance pumper, Shop # 105, was changed to diesel operation.
August 27, 1976 – Company received a 1970 Hahn 1250gpm pumper, Serial C12-42,
Shop #150, ex-Engine 43.
July 1, 1978 – The 1970 Hahn pumper, Shop #150, was returned to service painted lime-green.
February 24, 1983 – Company received a 1970 Hahn 1250gpm pumper, Serial # C12-31, Shop # 111, ex-Engine 51.
September 11, 1984 – Company received a 1984 Ford/Emergency One 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 3777, Shop # 103.
July 13, 1994 – Company received a 1994 Emergency One ‘Protector’ 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 13352, Shop # 138.
March 16, 1999 – Fire Fighter David L. Packard, Engine Company 48, died in the Line-Of-Duty.

2017 – Fire Lieutenant Bem I. Claiborne, Engine Company 48, was awarded the Edward H. Hommel, M.D., Medal of Honor for his actions at Box 3724 on April 14, 2017. Citation
