This firehouse was opened on December 18, 1984 when Engine Company 28 and Ladder Company 10 moved in from their prior quarters at 659 Centre Street, a few blocks away. Engine 28 and Ladder 10 had occupied the old firehouse since 1874 when the Town of West Roxbury was annexed to the City of Boston.
The firehouse is located at 746 Centre Street in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, at the corner of Greenough Street.
The Deputy Fire Chief of Division 2 shares quarters in this firehouse.
On September 9, 2022, The Deputy Chiefs of Division 2 and the District Chiefs of District 9 traded firehouse locations. The Division 2 chiefs moved from 746 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, to 1870 Columbus Avenue, Roxbury. The District 9 chiefs moved from 1870 Columbus Avenue to 746 Centre Street.
A plaque is mounted on the exterior of the firehouse to commemorate a firefighter who died in the Line Of Duty.
Engine 28 and Tower Ladder 10 respond to incidents in the Jamaica Plain, Fenway, Roxbury, and Roslindale sections of the city.
Engine 28 responds to approximately 2300 incidents per year. Tower Ladder 10 responds to approximately 2800 incidents per year.
