January 3, 1870 – The Town of Dorchester was annexed to the City of Boston. S.H. Hebard Engine Company 1 of Dorchester became S.H. Hebard Engine No. 16, located at River & Temple Streets , in Dorchester Lower Mills (2 Temple Street). Engine 16 shared the firehouse with Ladder Co. 6. The company retained the 1869 Silsby steam pumper, bought by the Town of Dorchester on October 20, 1869.

1873 – Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 16 – as it remains today).

August 16, 1903 – Captain John F. O’Connell, Engine Company 16, died in the Line-Of-Duty.

May 1, 1916 – Captain Michael Boyle, Engine Company 16, was profiled in a Boston Globe article. Newspaper story

October 19, 1921 – Company received a new 1921 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 3609, Shop # 139.

1927 – Company received a 1919 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm Triple Combination pumper, Serial # 2656, Shop # 127.

August 26, 1930 – Company received a new 1930 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 7233, Shop # 379.

June 1, 1938 – Ladder Co. 6 moved out of the firehouse it shared with Engine Company 16.

1939  – Company received a 1923 American LaFrance, Type 75, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 4338,
Shop # 155.

August 12, 1946 – Engine Co. 46 moved into Engine Company 16’s firehouse, temporarily, while renovations were performed on Engine 46’s firehouse.

June 27, 1947 – Engine Co. 46 moved out of Engine Company 16’s firehouse, returning to 1884 Dorchester Avenue , Dorchester.

1948 – Company received a 1947 Ward LaFrance, Model 120T, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 47-2214, Shop # 116.

1953 – Hoseman John E. Kelly, Engine Company 16, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation

1954 – Company received a 1948 Mack, Type 85, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 85LS1257, Shop # 194.

August 12, 1958 – Engine Company 16 moved out of its quarters at River & Temple Streets , Dorchester, and moved into the quarters if the disbanded Engine Company 46 at 1884 Dorchester Avenue , Dorchester. The firehouse at River & Temple Streets was closed.

December 31, 1958 – Engine Company 16 moved into a new firehouse, along with Ladder Company 6, at 9 Gallivan Boulevard , Dorchester.

1958 – Company received a 1953 FWD / Wood Engineering Co., 750gpm pumper, Serial # 117125, Shop # 114.

1959 – Company received a 1947 Pirsch, 1000gpm, pumper, Serial # 1485, Shop # 115.

1962 – Company received a 1947 Mack, Type 85, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 85LS1153, Shop # 148.

1963 – Fire Captain Richard B. Mullen, Engine Company 16, was awarded the John E. Fitzgerald Medal for the Most Meritorious Act of 1963, for his actions at 538-540 Talbot Avenue, Dorchester, on October 19, 1963. Citation for Fire Captain Richard B. Mullen.

1970 – Company received a 1968 Ward LaFrance, Model P80, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 80-236,
Shop # 164.

1973 – Company received a 1970 Hahn 1250gpm pumper, Serial # C12-31, Shop # 111.

1975 – Fire Fighter John D. Eggleston, Engine Company 16, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation

May 14, 1976 – Company received a new 1976 Ward LaFrance, Model P80, 1500gpm pumper, Serial #80-1248, Shop # 130.

1976 – Fire Lieutenant Joseph Pistorino, Fire Fighter Paul D. Manning, and Fire Fighter Leo J. Scanlon, Engine Company 16, were awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation

March 28, 1986 – Company received a new 1986 Emergency One/Ford 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 4759, Shop # 120.

November 26, 1993 – Fire Fighter (Acting Fire Lieutenant) Francis J. Baker, Engine Company 16, died in the Line-Of-Duty, from injuries received on October 12, 1993.

August 2, 1999 – Company received a new 1999 Emergency One, ‘Cyclone II’, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 20197, Shop # 153.

2000 – Fire Captain Richard T. Noonan, Engine Company 16 (detailed to District 9), was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation

2001 – Fire Lieutenant Gregory J. Mackin, Engine Company 16, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation

2001 – Fire Lieutenant Michael V. Sameski, Engine Company 16, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation

2009 – Fire Lieutenant Michael V. Sameski, Engine Company 16, was awarded the John E. Fitzgerald Medal for the Most Meritorious Act of 2009, for his actions at 83 Evans Street, Dorchester, on November 12, 2009. Citation for Fire Lieutenant Michael V. Sameski.

April 23, 2017 – Company received a new 2017 Emergency One 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 140749, Shop # 101.
