Ladder Co. 14 (Fire Companies)

June 30, 1883 – Aerial Ladder 1 was designated Ladder Company 14. The company continued to use the 1876 Scott-Uda aerial ladder truck. The company was quartered with Engine 25 & Ladder 8 at Fort Hill Square , Downtown.

April 25, 1884 – The 1876 Scott-Uda ladder truck was replaced by a new 1884 American LaFrance/Hayes Extension Ladder aerial ladder truck.

January 30, 1893 – The 1884 American LaFrance/Hayes aerial ladder truck was replaced by an 1893 Babcock aerial ladder truck, with turntable, built by the Fire Extinguisher Mfg. Co. of Chicago, IL.

April 21, 1904 Ladderman James Killian, Ladder Company 14, died in the Line-Of-Duty at the firehouse at Fort Hill Square, Downtown.

August 21, 1912 – Ladderman Phillip T. Smith, Ladder Company 14, died in the Line-Of-Duty while responding to a fire at 223 Commercial Street, Downtown, Box 8, on August 20, 1912.

February 26, 1915 – Company received a 1915 Robinson motor tractor, Shop # 207T , attached to a 1911 American LaFrance 85ft, formerly horse-drawn, ladder truck.

April 23, 1915 – COMPANY DEACTIVATED..

April 5, 1916 – COMPANY REACTIVATED. Company placed in service at the quarters of Engine Company 41 at 16 Harvard Avenue , Allston. The company was assigned the 1915 Robinson motor tractor, Shop # 207T , attached to a 1911 American LaFrance 85ft, formerly horse-drawn, ladder truck.

June 5, 1917 – Company received a 1917 Christie Front-Drive 2-wheel motor tractor, Shop # 223T , attached to an 1888 Babcock 85 ft aerial ladder truck trailer.

May 22, 1922 – Company received a 1920 American LaFrance, Type 31, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 3159-C261, Shop #229.

December 7, 1928 – Company received a new 1928 American LaFrance, Type 17, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 6409-C476, Shop # 255.

1939 – Ladderman Thomas F. Maloney, Ladder Company 14, was awarded the Roll Of Merit.

July 22, 1949 – Company received a 1944 ‘600 Series’ 100ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 8180-C695, Shop # 208.

September 23, 1950 – Lieutenant Roy E. Burrill and Ladderman William R. Benson, Ladder Company 14, died in the Line-Of-Duty while operating at a fire at 38-42 Everett Street, Allston, Box 5235.

March 7, 1952 – Company received a 1949 FWD ‘Model F85’, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, with 150gal. booster, Serial # 73191, Shop # 202.

1954 – Fire Fighter John C. Murphy, Ladder Company 14, was awarded the Roll Of Merit for his actions at 1139-1141 Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, Box 5121, 2 Alarms, on January 23, 1954. Citation.

1958 – Company received a 1949 FWD ‘Model F85’, 85ft tiller aerial ladder truck, with 150gal. booster, Serial # 73192, Shop # 206.

1958 – Fire Fighter William B. Linnane, Ladder Company 14, was awarded the Roll Of Merit for his actions at 11 Gorham Street, Brighton, on January 11, 1958. Citation.

July 6, 1962 – Company received a new 1962 Seagrave 100ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # N307, Shop # 209.

1966 – Fire Fighter Lawrence E. Lacasse, Fire Fighter William F. Roache and Fire Fighter Timothy F. Sullivan, Ladder Company 14, were awarded the Roll Of Merit, for their actions on Gardner Street, Brighton, on February 13, 1966. Citations.

1966 – Fire Fighter Leo J. Bowen and Fire Fighter William M. Callahan, Ladder Company 14, were awarded the Roll Of Merit for their actions on Glenville Avenue, Brighton, on March 12, 1966. Citations.

1971 – Company received a 1968 American LaFrance 100ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 12-1-932, Shop # 273.

June 17, 1977 – Ladder 14 and Engine 41 moved into the new firehouse at 460 Cambridge Street , Allston. The old firehouse at 16 Harvard Avenue was closed. The building was sold to an investment firm which made interior renovations. The building remains extent.

1977 – Fire Fighter James W. Ranahan, Ladder Company 14, was awarded the Patrick J. Kennedy Medal of Honor for his actions at 12-14 Portsmouth Street, Allston, on February 14, 1977.   Citation for Fire Fighter James W. Ranahan.

1981 – Company received a 1970 American LaFrance 100ft tiller aerial ladder truck, Serial # 12-1-1949, Shop # 202.

November 3, 1984 – Company received a new 1984 Emergency One 110ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 3740, Shop # 201.

1988 – Fire Lieutenant Charles M. Parillo and Fire Fighter Richard F. Felton, Ladder Company 14, were awarded the Roll Of Merit for their actions at 194 Kelton Street, Allston, Box 5156, 2 Alarms, on January 17, 1988. Citation.

July 8, 1993 – Company received a new 1993 Emergency One 110ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 12449, Shop # 227.

1994 – Fire Fighter Gregory Fall, Ladder Company 14, was awarded the Patrick J. Kennedy Medal of Honor for his actions at 13 Pratt Street, Allston, Box 5127, 2 Alarms, on December 31, 1994.  Citation for Fire Fighter Gregory Fall.

1995 – Acting Fire Lieutenant David A. Sylvester, Ladder Company 23 (detailed to Ladder Company 14), was awarded the Roll Of Merit for his actions at 7 Woodstock Avenue, Brighton, Box 5158, on July 21, 1995. Citation.

2000 – Fire Lieutenant Michael P. Finn and Fire Fighter Yuji Hairston, Ladder Company 14, were awarded the Roll Of Merit for their actions at 14 Melvin Avenue, Allston, Box 5173, on September 25, 2000. Citation.

October 15, 2011 – Company received a new 2011 Emergency One, Cyclone II, 110ft, low-profile cab, rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 136603, Shop # 253.

2012 – Fire Fighter Mark E. Williams, Ladder Company 14, was awarded the Roll Of Merit for his actions at 2 Fidelis Way, Brighton, on July 31, 2012. Citation.

2019 – Four members of Ladder Company 14, Fire Lieutenant Ronald D. O’Brien and Fire Fighters Ronald F. Bigos, Reaksmey Keo and Owen Kelly, were awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for their actions on Washington Street, Brighton, on February 14, 2019. Citation

November 27, 2019 – Company received a new 2019 Emergency One ‘Metro’ single-rear axle, 100ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 141486, Shop # 280.
