July 12, 1967 – The Rescue-Pumper Unit (RPU) was organized, replacing Engine Company 13. The RPU continued to maintain quarters at 36 Washington Street , Roxbury. The RPU was assigned the pumper previously assigned to Engine 13, a 1962 Ward LaFrance Type 1150T, 1250gpm, Shop # 105 , and a rescue truck.
The RPU was assigned to respond to all alarms previously assigned to Engine 13. The RPU was also designated to respond to all working fires and multiple alarm fires in Divison 2, and special calls whenever rescue services were required. The RPU was to respond to all incidents with both units.
June 27, 1968 – Company received a new 1968 Ward LaFrance, Model P80, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # C12-41, Shop # 149.
March 3, 1970 – Fire Lieutenant George J. Gottwald, Rescue-Pumper Unit, died in the Line-Of-Duty from injuries received while operating at Box 2124, 3 alarms, at 2235 Washington Street, Roxbury.
October 28, 1970 – Company received a new 1970 Hahn, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 80-238, Shop # 165.
October 29, 1970 – Company moved to temporary quarters. The pumper was quartered at Engine 42 at 1870 Columbus Avenue , Roxbury. The rescue truck was quartered at Engine 21 at 641 Columbia Road , Dorchester.
November 6, 1970 – The company returned to its permanent quarters at 36 Washington Street , Dorchester.
October 25, 1972 – COMPANY DEACTIVATED. Rescue Company 2 was (re)organized to provide rescue services in Division 2.
