December 18, 1859 – Steam Engine No. 1 was organized and placed into service at a firehouse formerly occcupied by (Hand) Engine Company 1, at approximately 434 West Broadway near Dorchester St., north side, on city-owned property adjacent to the Hawes School. (Hand) Engine Company 1 was disbanded.
April, 1868 – Company moved to new quarters at 119 Dorchester Street , South Boston, at the corner of West Fourth Street.
June 2, 1868 – Engine Company 1 was named Mazeppa Engine No. 1.
September 17, 1872 – Company received a new 1872 Amoskeag First Size steam engine, Serial # 416.
1873 – Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 1).
June 10, 1874 – Company reorganized as a Part-permanent company.
September 3, 1884 – Company changed from Call to Permanent company.
July 31, 1896 – Hoseman William H. Chapman, Engine Company 1, died in the Line-Of-Duty at Box 134.
July, 1897 – Company received an 1890 Clapp & Jones Second Size steam engine, Serial # 531, ex-Engine 26 and Engine 39.
October 30, 1916 – Due to firehouse renovations, company moved to the quarters of Ladder 5 at 456 West Fourth Street (just around the corner).
February 13, 1917 – Hoseman Alexander F. Mitchell, Engine Company 1, died in the Line-Of-Duty at Box 722.
June 20, 1917 – Company moved back to 119 Dorchester Street. Company received a new 1917 Seagrave, Model 756, motor Triple-Combination 750gpm pumper, Serial # 16553, Shop # 121. Ladder Company 5 moved in from their former quarters at 456 West Fourth Street.
December 19, 1921 – Company changed from Single-unit to Double-unit operation. Company received a new 1921 American LaFrance, Type 12, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 3615, Shop # 143 , and a 1914 American LaFrance, Type 10, Combination Hose & Chemical wagon, Serial # 563, Shop # 305 , ex-Engine 10.
December 11, 1922 – Company received a 1917 Seagrave Chemical & Hose wagon, Serial # 17795, Shop # 320 , ex-Engine 49.
August 25, 1930 – Company received a new 1930 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster wagon, Serial # 7230, Shop # 374.
August 4, 1947 – Company received a new 1947 American LaFrance ‘700 Series’ 750gpm pumper, Serial # L-3121, Shop # 121.
May 25, 1954 – Ladder Company 5, quartered with Engine Company 1, was deactivated.
February 28, 1955 – Company received a 1948 Ward LaFrance, Model 85H, Hose & Booster wagon, Serial # 2333, Shop # 307 , ex-Engine 14.
1958 – Fire Fighter Thomas J. Heanue of Engine Company 1 was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
July 31, 1962 – Company received a new 1962 Ward LaFrance, Model 1120, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 62-4791, Shop # 141. The 1947 ALF pumper, Shop # 121 , began operating as the hose wagon.
1963 – Fire Fighter John J. Feeney of Engine Company 1 was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
1965 – Fire Fighter Charles E. Graul and Fire Fighter Thomas S. Lydon of Engine Company 1 were awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
September 15, 1970 – Company received a 1968 Ward LaFrance, Model P80, 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 80-239, Shop # 160, ex-Engine 22. Company changed to Single-unit operation.
May 26, 1976 – Company received a 1973 Maxim 1500gpm pumper, Serial # 3137, Shop 178 , ex-Engine 24.
April 22, 1977 – Company moved to a new firehouse at 272 D Street, corner of West Third Street, South Boston, along with Engine 39 and Ladder 18. The old firehouse at 119 Dorchester Street was closed.
1979 – Fire Lieutenant James M. Solletti of Engine Company 1 was awarded the Roll Of Merit.
April 10, 1981 – COMPANY DEACTIVATED.
May 6, 1981 – Company reorganized at 272 D Street , South Boston, with the 1973 Maxim pumper, Shop 178.
October 20, 1981 – COMPANY DEACTIVATED.
