September 17, 1860 – Steam Engine No. 2 placed in service at 715 East Fourth Street , between K Street and L Street, South Boston. The firehouse was the previously the quarters of (Hand) Engine 14. The steam engine was an Amoskeag Second Size, Serial # 17.
June 2, 1868 – Company was named Spinney Engine No. 2
1873 – Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 2 – as it remains today).
June 10, 1874 – Company reorganized as a part-permanent company.
May 10, 1882 – Company exchanged quarters with Hose Co. 12. Engine Co. 2 moved to 863 East Fourth Street , corner of O Street, South Boston.

December 19, 1921 – Horse-drawn apparatus replaced by a 1917 Seagrave Triple Combination 750gpm motor engine, Serial # 16553, Shop# 121.
October 16, 1929 – Company received a new 1929 American LaFrance, Type 112, 750gpm pumper, Serial # 6670, Shop # 179 , equipped with the first booster tank in service in the Department.
May 3, 1932 – Company moved to a new firehouse at 700 West Fourth Street , South Boston. The former firehouse at 863 East Fourth Street was closed.
May 7, 1932 – Company was made a Double Unit (Pumper & Hose Wagon). The wagon was a 1920 American LaFrance, Type 75, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 3151, Shop# 333.
December 16, 1932 – Company received a 1930 American LaFrance, Type 212, Hose & Booster wagon, Serial # 7238, Shop #376.
May 31, 1938 – Company received a 1929 American LaFrance, Type 112, pumper, Serial # 6671, Shop # 180.
December 19, 1944 – Company received a new 1944 Pirsch 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 1397, Shop # 110.
February 3, 1946 – Captain Stephen F. Gunn and Hoseman Edward J. Barrett died in the Line Of Duty at Box 7221, 3 alarms, for a fire at 384 West Broadway, South Boston. Read a Narrative of this fire written by Patrick Edward McDonough, a member of Engine Co. 2.
March 2, 1955 – Company was made a Single-unit (with a Hose Wagon). Company to respond with the hose wagon to selected boxes and to multiple alarms.
March 29, 1957 – Company changed to a regular Single-unit, with a new 1957 Mack, Type 125, pumper, Serial # B125F, Shop # 100.
December 25, 1959 – Fire Fighter Arthur P. Spacone died in the Line Of Duty at Box 7221, at a fire on West Broadway, South Boston.
1961 – Fire Fighter Felix F. Cosgrove and Fire Fighter Richard T. O’Donnell of Engine 2 were awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
1966 – Fire Fighter Anthony W. Kane of Engine 2 was awarded the Patrick J. Kennedy Medal of Honor. Citation
May 6, 1967 – The gasoline engine in the 1957 Mack pumper, Shop # 100 , was replaced with a diesel engine.
1969 – Fire Fighter Richard T. O’Donnell of Engine 2 was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
October 16, 1970 – Fire Lieutenant Joseph J. Downing died in the Line of Duty at Box 7316, for a fire at 18 Dorchester St., South Boston.

1999 – Fire Lieutenant Ronald J. Savicke and Fire Fighter John J. McGrath of Engine 2 were awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation
November 3, 2003 – Company received a new 2003 Pierce, Enforcer model, Compressed Foam, 1250gpm pumper, 500gal tank, Serial # 14757-1, Shop # 163.
October 5, 2013 – A memorial plaque dedication ceremony was conducted, in memory of members of Engine Company 2 who died in the Line-Of-Duty.
July 3, 2017 – Company received a new 2017 Emergency One ‘Typhoon’ 1250gpm/560g tank/30g foam pumper, Serial # 141048, Shop # 102.
2019 – Four members of Engine Company 2, Fire Captain Robert H. Farmer (Headquarters) and Fire Fighters Patrick T. Loftus, Joseph G. Ciampa and Kyle P. Taylor (Ladder 18), were awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for their actions at Pleasant Bay, South Boston, on February 3, 2019. Citation
2022 – Fire Lieutenant Glen R. Martin of Engine Company 2 was awarded a Special Commendation for his actions on the Massachusetts Turnpike on August 13, 2022. Citation
