June 1, 1862 – Steam Engine No. 10 organized and placed into service at the old firehouse of Hose Co. 7 at River & Mt. Vernon Streets , Beacon Hill.
March, 1866 – Company occupied a new firehouse, built on the site of the old firehouse, at River & Mt. Vernon Streets , Beacon Hill.
June 2, 1868 – Company was named ‘Cataract’ Engine Co. 10.
February 1, 1870 – Company received a new Amoskeag First Size steam pumper, Serial # 337. This was the first Boston steamer to have a ‘Crane Neck Frame’. Having a ‘Crane Neck’ allowed the turning if the engine in its own length (the front wheels pivoted), which was not possible with the straight frame engines then in general use.
1873 – Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Engine 10 – as it remains today).
December 20, 1874 – Company changed from Call to Permanent status.
1895 – An 1882 Amoskeag Second Size steam pumper, Serial # 569, placed in service.
June, 1904 – The 1882 Amoskeag steam pumper, Serial # 569, was rebuilt at the Fire Department Shops on Albany Street.
1907 – An 1886 Silsby Second Size steam pumper, Serial # 850, (ex-Engine 28) was placed in service. The engine had been converted in July, 1903 to a piston pump by the American Fire Engine Co.
August 20, 1914 – Company received a new 1914 American LaFrance, Type 10, Combination Hose & Chemical wagon, Serial # 563, Shop # 305.
August 31, 1914 – Company received a 1914 American LaFrance, Type 22, 2-wheel tractor, Shop # 103T, attached to the 1882 Silsby steam pumper, Serial # 569.
December 21, 1915 – Hoseman Dennis A. Walsh and Hoseman Charles Willett, Engine Company 10, died in the Line-Of-Duty at Box 1356, 3 alarms, at a fire at 349 Cambridge Street, West End.
May 5, 1916 – Captain C. J. Brine , Engine Company 10, was profiled in a Boston Globe newspaper story: Profile
September 3, 1920 – Company received a new 1920 American LaFrance, Type 12, 1000gpm, motor pumping engine, Serial # 3156, Shop # 134.
December 5, 1920 – Company received a new 1920 American LaFrance, Type 75, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 3151, Shop # 333.
1923 – Captain Daniel J. O’Brien, Engine Company 10, was awarded the John E. Fitzgerald Medal for the Most Meritorious Act of 1923, for his actions at 7-9 Willow Street, Beacon Hill, Box 1374, on June 22, 1923. Citation for Captain Daniel J. O’Brien
July 27, 1928 – Company received a new 1928 American LaFrance, Type 112, Hose & Chemical Wagon, Serial # 6315, Shop # 361.
March 6, 1936 – Company received a new 1936 Seagrave, Type V12, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 82030, Shop # 187.
1942 – Hoseman William Callaghan, Engine Company 10, was awarded the Roll Of Merit.
February 14, 1946 – Due to renovations, company moved to Engine 26’s firehouse at 194 Broadway , Downtown.
February 15, 1946 – Company moved to Engine 4’s firehouse at Bowdoin Square , Downtown.
April 16, 1947 – Company received a new 1947 Ward LaFrance, Type 120T, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 47-2214, Shop # 116.
June 6, 1948 – Company received a new 1948 Mack, Type 95, 1000gpm pumper, Serial # 95LS-1112, Shop # 129.
July 21, 1948 – Company received a new 1948 Mack, Type 85, Cardox Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # 85LS-1246, Shop # 399.
April 14, 1949 – Company moved back to a newly-built firehouse, on the same parcel, at River & Mt. Vernon Sts., Beacon Hill. The address was listed as 60 River Street, later changed to 127 Mt. Vernon Street.
December 18, 1970 – Company received a 1957 Mack, Type 125, 1250gpm pumper (ex-Engine 9), Serial # B125F-1028, Shop # 101.
July 16, 1971 – Company received a new 1971 Hahn 1500gpm pumper, Serial # C15-17, Shop # 157.
July 16, 1975 – Company received a new 1975 Ford/Maynard Hose & Booster Wagon, Serial # C912LVP38717, Shop # 305.
June 27, 1978 – The 1971 Hahn pumper, Shop # 157 , was placed back into service painted Lime-Green. This was the first rig to be painted Lime-Green in the history of he BFD.
July 31, 1978 – The 1975 Ford/Maynard Hose Wagon, Shop # 305 , placed in service painted Lime-Green.
January 14, 1982 – Company moved to the quarters of Rescue 1 at 123 Oliver Street , Downtown. The firehouse at 127 Mt. Vernon Street was closed. (It reopened later in 1982 as the quarters of the Safety Chief (H-1), later closed permanently in 1995.)
February 5, 1982 – The 1970 Sutphen Aerial Tower (ex-Aerial Tower 1), Shop # 248 , was assigned to operate with Engine 10 and to respond to Working Fires and Multiple Alarm fires in the city.
May 21, 1983 – The 1970 Sutphen Aerial Tower, Shop # 248 , was reassigned to a new fire company, Tower Unit.
May 18, 1984 – The 1975 Ford/Maynard Hose Wagon, Shop # 305 , was returned to service painted red.
January 28, 1985 – Company received a new 1985 Emergency One/Ford 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 3891, Shop # 108.
March 12, 1985 – Company changed from Double Unit to Single Unit operation. The 1975 Ford/Maynard Hose Wagon, Shop # 305 , became a spare.
1986 – Fire Fighter On Probation (FFOP) William M. Gillis of Engine 10 was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation
August 30, 1989 – Company moved to a new firehouse at 125 Purchase Street , Downtown, in the first floor of a hi-rise building. The old firehouse at 123 Oliver Street was closed and later demolished for a new office tower.
1990 – Fire Fighter David A. Glover of Engine 10 was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation
July 24, 1995 – Company received a new 1995 Emergency One ‘Protector’ 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 14870, Shop # 139.
August 16, 2008 – Company received a new 2008 Emergency One ‘Cyclone II’ 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 134060, Shop # 169.
2016 – Four members of Engine Company 10, Fire Lieutenant Michael F. O’Connor and Fire Fighters Robert E. Barrett, Sean D. Shea and Nathaniel C. LeBlanc, were awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for their actions on Fruit Street, Downtown, on August 19, 2016. Citation
2016 – Five members of Engine Company 10, Fire Lieutenant Philip J. Cetrino and Fire Fighters Gregory T. Nicholas, Kevin J. Sheehan, Damon T. Shersten and Michael J. Lydon were awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for their actions on Hereford Street, Back Bay, on November 23, 2016. Citation
July 20, 2017 – Company received a new 2017 Emergency One ‘Typhoon’ 1250gpm pumper, Serial # 141064, Shop # 112.
2017 – Fire Fighter Michael J. Lydon, Engine Company 10, was awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for his actions on Hanover Street, North End, on November 22, 2017. Citation
2022 – Four members of Engine Company 10, Fire Lieutenant Bryan E. Warner and Fire Fighters Aleksei C. Nicklas, Patrick M. Martin and Christian M. Waterman were awarded the Roll Of Merit for their actions at 776 Summer Street, South Boston, on May 2, 2022. Citation
2022 – Members of Engine Company 10, Fire Captain Michael P. Feeney, Fire Lieutenant Edward J. Matthews (Engine Co. 8), Fire Fighter Joshua M. Coleman and Fire Fighter On Probation Gary Yeung were awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for their actions at 118 Richmond Street, North End, on June 28, 2022. Citation
