August 4, 1820 – Ladder Company No. 1 organized and located in a shed on Merrimac Street, Downtown.

1835 – Company moved to a new firehouse at (approximately) 139 Friend Street , at the corner of Friend & Market Streets.

1838 – Company named Hancock Ladder No. 1.

March 14, 1853 – Company moved to a new location at 152 Friend Street , at Warren Square. The firehouse was a converted primary school building.

February 18, 1860 – Ladderman Charles Carter, Ladder Company 1, died in the Line-Of-Duty at 42 Merchants Row, Downtown, due to a collapse of brick walls, 4 Alarms, Box District 1, Station 1.

1860 – A ladder truck built by Stevens & Pratt of Boston was placed in service. It was equipped with 19 ladders of varying lengths.

1864 – Company equipped with ‘spliced-ladders’ which extended to 65ft. in height.

May 11, 1868 – Ladderman George H. Golliff, Ladder Company 1, died in the Line-Of-Duty, when he was run over by the ladder truck while responding to a fire in Commercial Place, North End, Box 9.

June 2, 1868 – Company named Warren Hook & Ladder Company No. 1.

December 20, 1869 – Company received a new Hunneman ladder truck, containing 17 ladders of varying heights.

1873 – Company names discontinued, reverted back to numbered company only (Ladder 1 – as it remains today).

1874 – Made a permanent company.

1880 – Ladderman T.E. Simons, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Roll Of Merit.

December 20, 1890 – Company received a new Abbott-Downing ladder truck, with 12 ladders of varying heights.

1894 – Ladder 1’s firehouse at 152 Friend Street was closed for major renovations.

August 24, 1901 – Company received the 1869 Hunneman ladder truck, rebuilt by Charles Waugh &Co., equipped with 12 ladders of varying heights.

1907 – Ladder 1’s firehouse was again closed for major renovations.

April 18, 1916 – Captain J.F. McMahon, Ladder Company 1, was profiled in a Boston Globe newspaper story. Profile

1916 – Company received an 1880 ladder truck built by the J. Ryan Company, and later rebuilt by the BFD Repair Shop.

November 8, 1919 – Company received a new 1919 American LaFrance, Type 31, motor aerial ladder truck, Serial # 2651-C227, Shop # 224 , replacing the horse-drawn apparatus.

October 26, 1921 – Company received a new 1921 American LaFrance, Type 17, motor tractor, Serial # 3616, Shop # 208T , attached to a 1915 Seagrave 85ft aerial ladder trailer, Shop # 208.

May 27, 1922 – Company received a new 1922 American LaFrance, Type 17, 75ft aerial ladder truck, Serial # 3766-C302, Shop # 230.

1922 – Ladderman John J. Leary, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the first John E. Fitzgerald Medal for the Most Meritorious Act, for his actions on June 8, 1922 at Box 1243, 440 Hanover Street, North End. Citation for Ladderman John J. Leary

May 15, 1926 – Company received a new 1926 American LaFrance, Type 17, 85ft aerial ladder truck, Serial # 5527-C412, Shop # 242.

1927 – Lieutenant Dennis M. Condon, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the John E. Fitzgerald Medal for the Most Meritorious Act, and the Roll Of Merit, for his actions on June 2, 1927 at the North End Pier, North End. Citation for Lieutenant Dennis M. Condon

August 10, 1928 – Company received a new 1928 American LaFrance, Type 17, 85ft aerial ladder truck, Serial # 6314-C468, Shop # 252.

November 28, 1928 – Ladderman Martin J. Callahan, Ladder Company 1, died in the Line-Of-Duty from injuries received in a collision between Ladder 1’s rig and the hose wagon of Engine 4, while responding to Box 1348, Poplar & Chambers Streets, West End.

1929 – Ladderman William O. Cheswell, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation

October 17, 1933 – Company moved into the firehouse at Bowdoin Square. The firehouse at 152 Friend Street was closed.

September 22, 1948 – Company moved to a new firehouse, with Engine 8, at 392 Hanover Street , North End.

April 15, 1950 – Company received a new 1949 Mack, Type 19, tractor, Serial # 19LS-1084, Shop # 260T , attached to a 1930 American LaFrance 85ft aerial ladder truck, Shop # 260.

July 11, 1962 – Company received a new 1962 Seagrave aerial ladder truck, Serial # N306, Shop # 201.

1977 – Company received a 1973 Maxim 100ft aerial ladder truck, Serial # 3127, Shop # 220.

1985 – Fire Fighter Walter T. McGinn, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Roll Of Merit. Citation

1987 – Fire Lieutenant Paul H. Dewan Jr., Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Gerard J. Molito Award of Recognition. Citation

June 22, 1988 – Company received a new 1988 Emergency One 110ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 6019, Shop # 212.

1994 – Fire Fighter William J. Blackstone, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation

2001 – Fire Lieutenant John F. Alves, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Walter Scott Medal for Valor for his actions on April 23, 2001 at 51 Russell Street, Charlestown.

2002 – Fire Fighter Christopher Corwin and Fire Fighter Michael S. Dannaher, Ladder Company 1, were awarded the Roll Of Merit.

September 3, 2004 – Company received a new 2004 Pierce ‘Dash’ 100ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 15666, Shop # 239. This rig was equipped with All-Wheel steering.

2006 – Fire Lieutenant Edward P. Stokinger, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Citation

July 15, 2008 – Company received a new 2008 Emergency One Cyclone II 110ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 134054, Shop # 246.

2008 – Fire Fighter Brian Summering, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Roll Of Merit for his actions on Father Jacobbe Road, East Boston, on December 7, 2008. Citation

2017 – Fire Fighter Billy Clark, Ladder Company 1, was awarded the Roll of Merit for his actions on Hanover Street, North End, on November 22, 2017. Citation

May, 2018 – Company received a new 2018 Emergency One ‘Metro’ rearmount single-rear axle, 100ft aerial ladder truck, Serial # 141482, Shop # 273.

December 28, 2022 – Company received a new 2022 Emergency One ‘Metro’ single-rear axle, 100ft rearmount aerial ladder truck, Serial # 144100, Shop # 286.
